Bajrang Punia threatens to go court, if not selected for Sports Ratna award

New Delhi: Desperate star wrestler Bajrang Punia met Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Thursday not being nominated for the country’s prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. Punia told PTI that he believed the Sports Minister would consider his case. Punia won Gold Medal in Gold Coast and Jakarta, Bronze Medal in the 2013 World Championship and Silver Medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. He said that if he does not get a favourable answer by the evening then he will have to be compelled to open the court for justice.



Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh had gone to meet Rathore and his mentor Yogeshwar Dutt also went with Punia. He said, “Sports Minister is talking about watching our case, but there is less time in the award ceremony so I will wait till evening for the response from the government.”


Punia feels that because of her consistent good performance over the last few years, she deserves this honor. He said, “I did not expect that I will not get this award this year, my performance of the last four years should be seen, first there was no system, but now the number system has arrived, then I think now the numbers are my Read also – After Dravid, now Sachin Tendulkar refuses to accept the doctorate, know the reason


Bajrang Punia emphasized that he is getting full support from everywhere. But he will not bring the Indian wrestling federation in the middle. He said, “I have not spoken to the Indian Wrestling Federation in this matter.” Punia said that this is my fight.
